Description
The Peloponnese is the home of Arcadia and lives up to that concept of the earthly paradise. Before Athens, it was the cradle of Greek civilisation. By Bike around the Peloponnese describes a 25 day journey around the coast of the Peloponnesian Peninsula at Easter time in 2016. The journey copied the route taken by Edward Enfield in his book Greece on my Wheels. The author went to Korinth, Olympia, Kalamata, Sparta, the Mani Peninsula, Epidavros and the fortified island of Monemvasia. He visited Mycenean, Athenian, Roman, Byzantine and medieval sites. The route took in interesting and beautiful features of the landscape, history and archaeology of this fascinating place. Travel by bike imposed a slower pace on the journey and allowed close and leisurely contact with the country and its history. It also minimised contact with more conventional tourists. Many colour photos support the text and there are maps showing the locations visited.
